The file browser, code review, and repository storage service sit at different points in a coding agent’s work.
OpenAI announced plans to acquire Pierre Computer Company on November 4. Pierre makes Code Storage and developer libraries including Trees and Diffs. The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals; the companies remain independent until it closes.
Some Pierre software already runs in Codex
OpenAI says the Codex app already uses Trees for browsing project files and Diffs for reviewing changes. These are existing integrations. A user who has navigated files or inspected a change in the app may already have encountered the libraries without seeing Pierre’s name.
That review layer matters as an agent produces more changes. Developers still need to locate the relevant file and understand the proposed edit. The acquisition announcement describes plans to deepen that workflow, but it does not establish that future products have shipped.
Code Storage is the planned next step
Code Storage lets applications store code and track its history through Git. OpenAI says customers can keep using the service after closing while the company works to bring its functionality into Codex. OpenAI also promises to keep the projects open source and continue contributing to them.
The announcement does not disclose a purchase price or a closing date. It therefore supports a story about an announced transaction and product direction, rather than a completed merger or an immediate migration requirement for developers.
Keep the storage and review announcements separate
The news follows OpenAI’s description of Pando, its internal source-control backend for parallel work by engineers and agents. Our Pando report explains that separate engineering project. Pando, Pierre’s existing interface libraries, and a future Code Storage integration have distinct roles and availability.
For a team choosing coding tools today, the concrete questions remain: where its repository lives, how an agent creates a branch, and how a person reviews the resulting change. Planned integration can inform a roadmap, while a purchasing decision still needs evidence from the service available now.
We have not evaluated a combined Codex and Code Storage product. OpenAI’s announcement describes that work as a future integration.
