The most useful training project is one your organization is ready to let you build.
Anthropic announced Claude Frontier Academy on October 2, 2026, with a $100 million commitment and a target of training 10,000 engineers by the end of 2027. These are announced commitments and goals, not spending or graduation totals already achieved.
Who can participate
The announcement describes organizational nomination, rather than open enrollment for everyone. Organizations should ask their Anthropic account team or Partner Account Manager about eligibility. Initial cohorts are running in San Francisco, New York, and London.
Candidates need strong software-engineering fundamentals, experience building with language models, and a named Claude project to lead at work. Prior experience building AI agents is not required. The program page provides the official participation route.
The residency has two assessments
The program starts with several days of in-person work and a graded practical assessment. Passing earns the Claude Resident Engineer badge. Engineers then lead a real project during a 12-week residency, followed by another assessment. Anthropic expects the first Frontier Deployed Engineer badges in early 2027.
A nomination does not establish admission, and participation does not guarantee the final credential. The announcement also does not establish a salary outcome or job guarantee. Confirm eligibility and commercial terms directly before allocating a training budget.
Prepare the project before the nomination.
I would ask a candidate to bring a one-page project brief. Its purpose is to expose dependencies early, especially access approvals that can consume most of a residency. The following is my planning checklist, not Anthropic’s admission rubric.
- Name the workflow owner and the people who will use the result.
- Record the current completion time and error rate before adding AI.
- Identify approved data sources and restricted information.
- Choose a small deployment boundary with a human approval step.
- Define failure tests and a rollback owner.
- Set a measurable acceptance threshold and a date for reviewing actual usage.
For example, drafting internal support replies is a narrower starting point than letting an agent close accounts. A team can test factual accuracy and reviewer workload before granting irreversible actions. That is an illustrative project boundary, not a feature promised by the Academy.
For measurement, our agent usage and review guide separates activity from useful outcomes. For an early demonstration, the protected preview guide covers temporary reviewer access.
