Finding an invitation and moving the appointment involve different levels of access to your account.
OpenAI added iCloud Mail and Calendar plugins to ChatGPT in its October 27 release notes. The company says users can search email, catch up on their inbox, check their schedule, and update calendar events.
OpenAI lists every ChatGPT plan as eligible. It names three supported platforms: web, desktop and iOS. This announcement doesn’t mention Android.
Calendar access includes changes
The useful distinction is between reading information and changing it. Looking up an appointment returns information already in the calendar. Updating an event changes the record that someone may rely on later.
OpenAI explicitly includes calendar updates in the new capabilities. The same announcement does not establish email sending, so inbox search should not be described as permission to send messages.
Begin with an appointment you can verify
A cautious first evaluation would use a clearly named test event without personal details. Ask ChatGPT to identify it, check that the date and time match the calendar, then request one small change.
Inspect the event in Calendar afterward. Confirm the time zone, any attendees, and the final value before relying on the result. If the request is ambiguous, clarify which event should change before asking the assistant to act.
This is a proposed evaluation sequence. We have not connected an iCloud account or tested the new plugins.
Review the connection’s actual permissions
Use the authorization screen to understand the requested access. OpenAI’s connected-apps documentation explains its broader app framework; an app connection should not be taken as evidence of on-device processing or unchanged data-use settings.
People with a managed workspace should also check the controls their organization applies. The release’s “all plans” wording does not resolve every account or workspace configuration.
The immediate benefit is fewer steps between finding an email and checking the related appointment. The practical responsibility is to verify any event the assistant changes. Read the dated release notes for the current platform scope.
