1Password for Agents: Check Account Region and Partner Availability

Approving an agent’s login creates a session in another service. Review what the agent can do after that login as carefully as the credential handoff.

The October 22 launch has account limits

1Password’s launch article introduces a way for personal AI agents to use accounts without receiving the stored password directly. The initial service supports Individual and Family accounts on 1Password.com at no additional cost.

The announcement excludes accounts hosted on 1Password.eu and 1Password.ca. A paid account on one of those domains does not establish eligibility for this launch.

The press announcement places the Muse and Grok rollout in the coming days. Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work, and dots Town integrations are described as forthcoming. Check the actual partner before assuming access.

Credential handling and later actions are different

1Password describes an approval flow on the user’s device, followed by filling in credentials in the login form. Its stated design keeps the stored credential away from the agent.

That is the vendor’s security description. MustHave.ai has not independently tested the credential path or the partner integrations.

After login, the service can issue a session with its own permissions. Approval to authenticate should not be treated as approval for every later message, purchase, or account change.

Start with a harmless account task

I would choose an authorized test account that contains no sensitive material. Ask the agent to retrieve one ordinary record, then inspect the service’s actual result and session controls.

  • Confirm the 1Password account domain and eligible plan.
  • Check that the intended partner has enabled the integration.
  • Read the approval screen and verify the destination account.
  • Observe the requested task after login.
  • End the session and check the service’s active-session list.

Record what happened if approval was denied or expired. The workflow should explain how to recover without encouraging the user to approve a different account or broader action.

Keep the destination service in the review

Use the narrowest suitable account role for the trial. Check the destination service’s controls for purchases, messages, and other consequential actions.

When access is no longer needed, review both the agent connection and the authenticated session. Disconnecting one component should lead to a check of the other component’s actual state.

The useful deployment record includes the approved login, the requested action, and the observed outcome. Successful authentication alone does not prove the task was performed correctly.

Our Claude Duet guide explains the preview’s approval and usage boundaries. The Grok Team Bots article covers a separate team-permission model.
