v0 by Vercel
v0 by Vercel turns natural-language requests into working web applications, with a code editor, GitHub sync, integrations, previews, and one-click Vercel deployment.
About this product
v0 is at its best when an idea is specific enough to build but not yet worth a week of setup. Describe the page, data, actions, and constraints, and it can produce a working web project you can inspect in the browser and the code editor.
The important word is inspect. v0 can remove blank-page work, but it does not remove product decisions or production engineering. The result starts to matter when you treat it as a real repository, not a screenshot that happened to compile once.
It builds more than interface mockups
The current v0 quickstart covers projects, chats, the editor, integrations, environment variables, GitHub, domains, analytics, and collaboration. You can ask for a landing page, dashboard, internal tool, or full-stack application, then refine the result through chat or direct design edits.
Plan mode is useful before a large change. Ask v0 to identify routes, data models, permissions, and external services first. A plan makes it easier to catch a missing administrator role or destructive data action before code spreads across the project.
The built-in editor matters because generated apps rarely stay prompt-only. A developer can inspect files, fix an edge case, and keep the normal discipline of types, tests, and version control.
GitHub is the exit route and the working route
Connecting a repository keeps the project from becoming trapped in one conversation. Commit meaningful milestones, use branches for risky changes, and review the diff before merging. If v0 rewrites a component that was already correct, Git gives you a clean way back.
GitHub also lets another developer continue without learning the history of every prompt. That is essential for client work and long-lived products. Export early. Waiting until the prototype becomes complicated defeats much of the benefit.
v0 moved its public home and documentation from v0.dev to v0.app. Old links may redirect, but current projects and documentation should use the new domain.
Deployment is easy because Vercel is close
The deployment guide describes one-click Vercel deployment, GitHub preview deployments, custom domains, environment variables, analytics, and deployment protection. This is a genuine advantage when the target is a Next.js application on Vercel.
One click does not make an app production-ready. Check secrets, authorization, database rules, error reporting, accessibility, loading performance, backups, and spending limits. Test an ordinary account against administrator routes. Try invalid inputs and expired sessions.
If the required destination is another cloud or a non-JavaScript stack, prove that workflow before choosing v0. Code ownership helps, but the generated architecture still reflects the platform’s preferred path.
Pricing has a transition hidden inside it
The official pricing documentation lists Free at $0 with $5 in monthly credits. Premium costs $20 with $20 in credits, but it is being sunset and is no longer available to new users. Team costs $30 per user with $30 in credits. Business costs $100 per user and includes $30 in credits plus a data opt-out. Enterprise is custom.
Credits behave like a prepaid balance. Generation consumes tokens from that balance, and unused monthly credits can roll over for a limited period. A long chat with a growing codebase sends more context, so later messages can cost more than early ones.
For a new individual user, Free may jump directly to a team-oriented price. Test the whole build-export-deploy loop before paying.
A useful v0 trial
- Write a one-page brief with users, routes, data, and non-negotiable constraints.
- Ask for a plan before generating the application.
- Connect GitHub and commit the first working version.
- Deploy a preview, then test mobile layout, forms, permissions, and error states.
- Ask a developer to review one security-sensitive path.
The test is complete only when the code can leave the chat and another person can maintain it.
My verdict
v0 is a strong choice for turning a web product idea into an inspectable Next.js application quickly. Its GitHub and Vercel connections give the prototype a credible path into normal development.
The current pricing transition makes the free trial especially important for individuals. Use v0 for acceleration, keep the repository as the source of truth, and apply the same security and quality checks you would expect from hand-written production code.
